6 Reasons to Love Living in Waxahachie

1. It Is the Gingerbread City

Waxahachie’s nickname is Gingerbread City because of the architecture of a number of surviving pre-1900 buildings. They feature amazing gingerbread carpentry on Victorian homes, and each year the Gingerbread Trail takes visitors around the best examples. A few of the buildings are now bed and breakfast inns, so you can spend a night in your very own gingerbread house.

2. The Scarborough Renaissance Festival

Every year a Renaissance-themed historical theme park comes to town. The Scarborough Faire will transport you back to Merrie Olde England with costumed performers and themed entertainment. The festival is hugely popular and has been taking place every year since 1981!

3. Our Beautiful Parks

The outdoor spaces in our city are beautiful but also full of history. The Getzendaner Memorial Park was first established back in 1889 as the West End Park, and by the early twentieth-century cultural programs called Chautauqua Assemblies were taking place. Amongst other events happening there was a Confederate soldier reunion in 1892 which included W.H. Getzendaner. The park was named after him in 1914.

4. The Doves Nest Restaurant

Set at the back of a gift boutique, The Doves Nest is an adorable family restaurant specializing in delicious American home cooking. It’s as much fun to browse the store as the extensive menu! Choose from tasty, wholesome soups, stacked sandwiches, and great burgers. Don’t forget to leave space for dessert – their chocolate and bourbon pecan pie is the stuff of legend!

5. Waxahachie Sports Complex

The Waxahachie Sports Complex is an incredible resource that provides so many opportunities for fun. There are fields for football, softball, baseball, and soccer. Take advantage of the running track or bring your kids to the playground. You can fill the whole weekend with the sporting opportunities available at this awesome complex, whether you are playing or coming on down to cheer on your favourite team.

6. Bistro 115

This restaurant is a real hidden gem, offering some of the most delicious food in the area, and fantastic service to match. This contemporary bistro offers a range of cuisines on an expansive menu. Try the grilled pineapple chicken and mango shrimp for a real flavour explosion, or the Lavash Salad which is packed with appetizing elements like heirloom tomatoes and Kalamata olives.
